Romans believed Moonstone was born from solidified rays of the moon. In India Moonstone has a special significance for lovers and is a traditional wedding gift. It is said that Moonstone cures sleeplessness and reconciles lovers. It is known as the Traveler’s stone, giving travelers protection, especially when traveling at night. Moonstone is valued in meditation for showing what is, neither adding nor subtracting. It is reported to be a personal stone, excellent to use in understanding oneself, a stone of inner growth and strength.
Moonstone is a variety of feldspar. It has a special visual effect called sheen or adularesence that causes the stone to have an inner glow when light reflects off it. It is generally white to bluish white, but can be silvery or blue-orange. Moonstone is found in a variety of colors: gray, mocha brown, yellow, orange, pink, green, blue, white, colorless and rainbow.
Care and Cleaning of Moonstone: Use only a mild soap and a soft cloth to clean gemstones. Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners. Do not use harsh chemicals or cleaners.
